Contract Type: FOR RENT
State: Missouri
Last Update Date: 2022-12-13

WARNING- We called and asked about this house in Strafford, met the owner and viewed the house. We were interested so we went and withdrew cash off and signed a lease/got keys. Shortly after moving in there seemed to be several issues. Propane was being drained fairly quickly for the little amount we used. Breaker box was broken so our dryer wouldn’t work, even had to buy a new dryer cord since the plug in the wall was used for a stove. Kitchen sink randomly started leaking water, can’t hang a shower curtain, shower faucet was broken. Stairway carpet was stained and sticky. After a month passing we called the landlord to let him know we couldn’t afford to stay there since my boyfriends work was laying off so we needed to move. He said someone was interested in the house and was to come view the house then no one showed. When we had that conversation he agreed to give us our rent we didn’t use for December, remaining propane and our deposit. Then as time went on and our conversations continued he switched up and was saying he wasn’t giving us any of our money back. We dished out almost $3,000 for this 1 month. Charged $600 for the remaining propane, $1200 deposit and whatever rent was charged for the remainder of November. He then received another $900 towards Decembers rent before we found out he was being laid off. We cleaned the house out, went in and cleaned everything and when we called to have him walk thru so we could receive our deposit and remanding rent for December and unused propane he claimed we did all of these “damages”. Claiming we scratched the floors so he would have to spend “$600” to replace flooring even though it’s 99 cent flooring at Lowe’s, scraped off paint in the doorway, have someone from Stanley cleaners come clean carpets (brand new carpet and there were 0 stains and vacuumed daily), tried to charge us for “trash” that was in the trash can outside to be picked up on Tuesday. After all said and done he was only giving us “$200” and said most landlords wouldn’t give a dime back. Out of $3,000 we got $200 and he wasn’t even gonna give us that. I would beware about renting from him. Definitely a slumlord and will act like a good guy so you’ll rent from him. Save yourself some time and money
