If you are looking for a typical place to live . . . you're looking at the wrong listing. This apartment also has some issues which need to be addressed. This is a good opportunity for the right tenant. Please read this entire posting to ensure that you fully understand what you are inquiring about.
We are a family who is committed to seeking ways by which we can live in a more sustainable and harmonious fashion. We have created comfortable living spaces in our home which are nicer than you would expect for the price, but also have certain features which you won't typically find in middle-class city living.
To start with, our home is located on a 1/4 acre and has a large fenced and cross-fenced back yard. Part of the yard is reserved for permaculture-style gardening. There are large trees which serve as habitat for local wildlife, and the birch trees, we have tapped in the past for their supply of delicious sap which we've made into syrup, sauces, and birch beer.
The yard also has several out-buildings. One has been used as a chicken coop. Part of that building has rabbit hutches. The other two buildings we have used to house and milk goats.
There also is a hot tub in the backyard which worked when we were last there, but has since gone kaput. If you know anything about fixing such things, you are welcome to try your hand at it.
In the living space itself, you will find granite counter-tops, dual shower-heads in the oversize shower, and heated floors in the bedrooms.
Overall, it makes for a pleasant and comfortable living situation, that you usually have to spend a lot more to experience.

This is a space for rent in a single family home. You have your own entrance, kitchen, living space, laundry, bathroom, bedrooms, etc., but technically it is a single family home. Access to the rest of the house is separated by a double-locked door. The home's other inhabitants do not have access to your personal space, and you do not have access to theirs. Common areas include fenced and cross-fenced back yard & rooftop gardens and side yards, and limited off-street parking on a first-come, first-served basis. The best term to describe this arrangement is "co-housing." If you're not familiar with the term, Google it. It's a great way to live.
Now for the opportunity part: The previous tenant left a window open when he moved out. His kind act allowed the place to freeze up. It didn't cause complete destruction, but there were several burst pipes. The pipes which go to the heating system have been repaired. The pipes which go to at least one of the faucets have not. Merritt, the senior tenant in the building, made the repairs to the heating system and has an idea of what needs to be done to complete the other repairs. If you are both willing and able to do the repairs that need to be done, you will receive a 50% discount on a month's rent. If you know what you're doing, we're talking less than a day's work. There is also a spot in the roof that needs to be repaired.
Again, not a huge project. This discount will be credited to you when you have completed the repairs and this is verified by Merritt.

Some of the pictures show furniture. This furniture belongs to former tenants, and is no longer there. There is also some updated paint in the smaller of the two bedrooms. Not gaudy. Just different. If you don't like it, you're welcome to change it. Pictures don't do it justice. Come check it Out!
